In the small town of Kentwood, Louisiana, the evening of October 4, 2024, was shattered by violence that claimed the life of 38-year-old Renaldo Antwine Brumfield. A Black male born on January 26, 1986, to Debra and the late LeOtis Brumfield, he was a man raised in the very community where his life would tragically end. That Friday night, just before 9:30 p.m., the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office received a call about a fight unfolding in the 12000 block of Oak Hill Road.
When
deputies arrived at the scene, they found a grim reality. The reported altercation had escalated, and Renaldo Brumfield lay with multiple gunshot wounds. Despite the immediate medical attention he received, his injuries proved to be fatal. The swift response of law enforcement, however, meant that the man suspected of ending Brumfield's life would not remain at large for long.
The investigation quickly pointed to 41-year-old Gerald Harvey as the individual responsible for the fatal shooting. In a matter of hours, by 11:30 p.m. on the same night of the incident, deputies had located and apprehended Harvey. He was taken into custody and subsequently charged with second-degree murder, bringing a swift, albeit somber, development to a case that had just begun to unfold. The community was left to mourn the loss of one of their own as the wheels of justice began to turn for the man accused of causing his untimely death.
