In the wake of the shooting, investigators quickly identified a potential suspect. Michael Rogillio, a 44-year-old from St. Francisville, was located and taken into custody without incident. The Livingston Parish Sheriff's Office, with assistance from the West Feliciana Parish Sheriff's Office and the St. Francisville Police Department, arrested Rogillio.
Following his arrest, Michael Rogillio was booked on a charge of second-degree murder in connection with Joshua Smith's death. He was initially held as a fugitive for Livingston Parish at the West Feliciana Parish jail before his transport to the Livingston Parish Detention Center to face the charges.
