In the small city of Crowley, Louisiana, a late evening on Friday, October 18, 2024, was shattered by violence that claimed the life of 41-year-old Travis Trentel Thorne. The male victim was found lying on the ground in the 600 block of Dejean Circle around 9:30 p.m. by Crowley police officers who were responding to reports of a shooting. He had sustained multiple gunshot wounds to his neck, torso, right forearm, and wrist. Despite the immediate life-saving efforts of emergency medical responders, Thorne was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation into the shooting quickly pointed to a preceding physical altercation. Authorities identified 30-year-old Johnus Lambert as the primary suspect in Thorne's death. According to police, a fistfight between Thorne and Lambert escalated to a fatal degree when Lambert allegedly shot Thorne multiple times. Following the shooting, Lambert reportedly fled the scene in a silver 2011 Nissan Maxima.
In the wake of the deadly encounter, the Crowley Police Department launched a search for Johnus Lambert and appealed to the public for any information regarding his whereabouts. Law enforcement officials emphasized that the shooting was an isolated incident and not connected to the International Rice Festival, which was taking place in another part of town.
