In the Plum Orchard neighborhood of New Orleans, a 20-year-old Hispanic male named Jordan Chavez was killed in a violent shooting on October 30, 2024. The incident also claimed the life of 17-year-old Tynarvia Rogers. The New Orleans Police Department reported that both Chavez and Rogers were found with at least one gunshot wound and were pronounced dead at the scene on Laine Avenue near Crowder Boulevard.
As of late 2025, no arrests have been officially announced in the double homicide
of Chavez and Rogers, and the case remains unsolved. However, online discussions have pointed to a potential connection between this shooting and a separate homicide that occurred just nine days earlier.
On October 21, 2024, a 36-year-old man named Manuel Jones was fatally shot in the 4700 block of Bonita Drive, also in the Plum Orchard area. In that case, two suspects, 19-year-old Mekhai Pierce and 18-year-old Diamond Ebbs, were later arrested and charged with second-degree murder.
According to a police affidavit mentioned in a social media post, the home where Chavez and Rogers were killed was allegedly the residence of a woman who was present at the scene of Manuel Jones's murder. The post, made by an individual seeking answers in the case, claimed that this woman and her mother, identified as 'La'keitha' and 'diamond' respectively, were detained for questioning in connection with the Jones homicide. The post further alleged that the woman disconnected her surveillance cameras around the time of the double murder and that both she and her daughter fled the state afterward. While the arrest of Diamond Ebbs in the Manuel Jones case has been confirmed, a direct link between the two homicides and the other allegations have not been substantiated by law enforcement or news reports. The investigation into the deaths of Jordan Chavez and Tynarvia Rogers continues.
