A beloved member of the New Orleans community, 77-year-old Keithroy Ambrose, a male, was tragically killed in his home on December 16, 2019. The incident occurred in the morning, at approximately 10:15 a.m., in the 1700 block of North Dupre Street in the Fairgrounds neighborhood. Ambrose was discovered by first responders in a second-floor bathroom, having sustained multiple gunshot wounds.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
For three decades, Ambrose and his family had been residents of the Fairgrounds Triangle, where he was known as a community elder. His sudden and violent death was a profound loss for his family and the tight-knit neighborhood, leaving many in a state of shock and grief. The president of the Fairgrounds Triangle Neighborhood Association described him as a 'well known and well loved neighbor,' and his death as devastating to the community and the city.
In the wake of the shooting, the New Orleans Police Department launched a homicide investigation. Early in the inquiry, investigators did not publicly identify any suspects or a motive for the killing. In an effort to generate leads, the police released surveillance footage in March 2020 showing an unidentified individual fleeing the vicinity around the time of the murder. Authorities appealed to the public for any information that might lead to the identification and apprehension of the person or persons responsible for Ambrose's death.
Despite the ongoing investigation and the release of the surveillance video, there have been no public announcements regarding any arrests made in connection with the murder of Keithroy Ambrose.
