In the Smoketown neighborhood of Louisville, Kentucky, a young life was cut short by gun violence on the evening of Friday, February 24, 2023. Carlos Alejandro Vera Valdes, a 19-year-old Hispanic male, was fatally shot at 516 East Breckinridge Street. Born in Manzanillo, Cuba on November 27, 2003, Carlos was known for his love for animals, often taking in stray dogs and nursing them back to health.
