In the early hours of May 10, 2023, the life of 19-year-old Neel Nai was tragically cut short in the Shawnee neighborhood of Louisville, Kentucky. An Indian male, Neel was closing up his family's corner store, a place known to locals as the 41st Store, located at the intersection of 41st and Market Streets. It was a routine task that took a devastating turn when an individual, described by employees as appearing to be young, attempted to rob the store.
During the course of the robbery, Neel was shot.
Louisville Metro Police officers responded to a call about the shooting at approximately 12:45 a.m. and found Neel with multiple gunshot wounds. He was quickly transported by EMS to the University of Louisville Hospital. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, he succumbed to his injuries shortly after his arrival. The Jefferson County Coroner's Office later confirmed his identity and the cause of his death.
