In the early evening of September 27, 2023, the life of 18-year-old Jeremiah Wesley Hurt was tragically cut short in the Shively neighborhood of Louisville, Kentucky. An African American male and recent graduate of Iroquois High School, Jeremiah was known to his friends and family as 'Miah.' Around 8 p.m., in the 4000 block of Valley View Drive, Jeremiah was fatally shot while in his vehicle.
After being struck by the gunfire, he attempted to drive away but lost control of his vehicle,
which then crashed into a nearby home. A resident of the home heard the crash and found Jeremiah in the driver's seat with a gunshot wound to his back. The resident and a friend immediately rendered first aid, applying pressure to the wound and calling for emergency services. Despite their efforts, Jeremiah was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Shively Police Department quickly began a homicide investigation. Authorities have stated that they do not believe the shooting was a random act of violence and that there is no ongoing threat to the community. However, as of the latest available information, no suspects have been publicly identified, and no arrests have been made in connection with the shooting. The police have urged anyone with information regarding the case to come forward to assist in their ongoing investigation. The community continues to seek justice for Jeremiah, whose funeral services were held on October 3, 2023.
