In the Russell neighborhood of Louisville, Kentucky, a 34-year-old man named Kevin Djuawn Ardis lost his life in a fatal shooting that occurred on the evening of January 25, 2024. The incident took place around 7 p.m. in the 2100 block of West Muhammad Ali Boulevard. First Division officers from the Louisville Metro Police Department were dispatched to the scene following reports of a shooting and found Ardis with a gunshot wound.

administered first aid at the scene before he was transported to the University of Louisville Hospital in serious condition. Despite medical efforts, Kevin Ardis succumbed to his injuries and passed away at the hospital the following day, on January 26, 2024. The Louisville Metro Police Department's homicide unit is leading the ongoing investigation into his death.
Following the incident, an investigation led to the identification of a suspect. On February 16, 2024, the Louisville Metro Police Homicide and Fugitive Apprehension Units arrested 23-year-old Tysean Malique Effinger in connection with the murder. Effinger was taken into custody in the 4300 block of Newport Road. According to court documents, the shooting happened after an argument broke out among a group of people inside a liquor store and the incident was captured on video, which aided in Effinger's identification. Effinger has been charged with murder and being a convicted felon in possession of a handgun, and he was lodged in Metro Corrections.
