A road rage incident on a Kentucky highway escalated to a fatal shooting, ending the life of 63-year-old Daniel Shouse of Carrollton. The confrontation began on Interstate 71 and continued after both vehicles involved exited onto KY 389 in Carroll County on the evening of June 8, 2024. During the incident, the other driver contacted police dispatch, reporting that Shouse was brandishing a firearm.
Following the initial exchange on the highway, Shouse reportedly made a U-turn and drove
back towards the other vehicle. It was at this point that the other driver fired their weapon, striking and killing Shouse, who was pronounced dead at the scene by the Carroll County coroner. Investigators found that Shouse was in possession of a gun at the time of the altercation.
The shooter, who has not been publicly identified, remained at the scene and cooperated with the Kentucky State Police investigation. Citing self-defense, the individual provided their account of the events leading up to the shooting. After reviewing the case, a grand jury declined to file any criminal charges against the shooter, and the Carroll County Commonwealth's Attorney confirmed that no charges would be pursued. The investigation into the incident is considered closed.
