In the late afternoon of a Friday in Louisville, Kentucky, 18-year-old Jerrick Dewayne Lamont Young, Jr., an African-American male and a recent graduate of Seneca High School, walked out of a food mart on Dixie Highway. It was September 13, 2024, and the events that unfolded in the moments after he exited the store would tragically cut his young life short. Without warning, gunshots rang out, and Jerrick fell to the ground, having sustained multiple gunshot wounds.
Police and emergency services arrived at the scene in the Algonquin neighborhood to find him wounded on the sidewalk. Despite their efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene. Witnesses recalled hearing three quick shots, a sudden burst of violence that shattered the afternoon.
The investigation into Jerrick's murder quickly fell to the Louisville Metro Police Department's Homicide Unit. In the weeks that followed, detectives pieced together the events of that day, relying heavily on surveillance footage from the area. This video evidence would prove to be crucial in identifying a suspect. Nearly a month after the shooting, a significant break in the case came with the arrest of 18-year-old William Irvin. He was taken into custody after a brief foot pursuit and charged with murder in connection with Jerrick's death.
Further investigation led to the indictment of a second individual, Antonio Glenn. According to court documents, it is believed that Glenn drove Irvin to the food mart on the day of the shooting. Surveillance footage reportedly captured a car, allegedly containing both men, circling the block while Jerrick was inside the store. The footage then shows Irvin exiting the vehicle, walking through the parking lot, and passing Jerrick. It is at this point that Irvin allegedly turned and opened fire, shooting Jerrick multiple times before fleeing the scene in the same vehicle. Following his arrest, William Irvin pleaded not guilty, and a judge set his bond at $500,000. A warrant was issued for Antonio Glenn's arrest, and both men are scheduled to appear in court.
