On September 2, 2023, at approximately 2:39 a.m., the Eugene Police Department responded to a report of a shooting at 590 E. Broadway in Eugene, Oregon, just outside a 7-Eleven store. The victim, identified as Stephen Anthony Forrest, a 32-year-old employee of the 7-Eleven, was found with life-threatening injuries and was immediately transported to a local hospital for medical treatment.
Despite the efforts of medical professionals, Forrest succumbed to his injuries and was declared deceased.
The incident led to an investigation by the Eugene Police Department's Violent Crimes Unit, and a person of interest was identified as Jaisi Tavin Savath, a 22-year-old from Springfield, Oregon. Savath was described as having an olive complexion, long black hair, and standing approximately 6 feet tall with a thin build. He was believed to have fled the scene in a vehicle, although initial reports of a silver Infinity 4-door sedan were later ruled out.
