In the early afternoon of December 6, 2023, a life was tragically cut short in Portland, Oregon's Buckman neighborhood. Michael L. Hart, a 49-year-old man, was fatally shot near the intersection of Southeast Main Street and Southeast Water Avenue. The incident occurred at approximately 1:48 p.m., at which time officers from the Central Precinct responded to a report of a shooting.
Upon their arrival, police discovered bystanders performing CPR on Hart.
Emergency medical services took over, but despite their life-saving efforts, he succumbed to his injuries at the scene. The medical examiner later confirmed that Hart's death was a homicide resulting from a gunshot wound. At the time of the incident, Hart, who was also known by the nickname "Nomad," had been living in a tent in the area.
The individual or individuals responsible for Hart's death fled before law enforcement was called. An extensive search of the vicinity was conducted by officers, which led to one person being briefly detained. However, they were soon released after it was determined they were not involved in the shooting. As of now, no arrests have been made in connection with the homicide. The Portland Police Homicide Unit is actively investigating the case and has appealed to the public for any information regarding the shooting or Michael L. Hart. His family has been notified of his death.
