On the evening of Saturday, February 26, 2022, a fatal encounter unfolded in a parking garage in Portland's Lloyd District. Jacob T. Dreyer, a 38-year-old Caucasian male from Vancouver, was found deceased in the driver's seat of a car. The cause of death was an apparent gunshot wound. Portland Police Bureau officers were dispatched to the scene in the 1000 block of Northeast 2nd Avenue at 7:12 p.m.
following a report of a shooting.
The investigation into the death of Jacob Dreyer led detectives to learn that he had arranged to meet a suspect for a drug transaction. A witness who was in the backseat of Dreyer's vehicle stated that the suspect shot Dreyer before searching his pockets and fleeing the scene. The investigation quickly identified a person of interest.
Less than two weeks later, on March 7, 2022, an arrest was made in connection with the homicide. Lona-Akoni Hudson, then 28 years old, was taken into custody by U.S. Marshals, in collaboration with the Vancouver Police Department and the Southwest Regional SWAT team. Hudson was subsequently booked into the Multnomah County Detention Center. On March 15, 2022, a grand jury returned an indictment against him for Murder in the First Degree with a Firearm, Robbery in the First Degree, and Unlawful Use of a Weapon with a Firearm. In a resolution that also involved two other investigations, Lona-Akoni Hudson pleaded guilty to Manslaughter in the First Degree with a Firearm and Robbery in the First Degree. On November 1, 2023, a Multnomah County Circuit Court Judge sentenced him to 25 years in prison.
