On March 13, 2023, a fatal shooting occurred in New Bedford, Massachusetts, resulting in the death of 29-year-old Derek Pires from Fall River. The incident was detected by the Shot Spotter system at around 10:52 p.m. near the intersection of Dartmouth and Dunbar streets. New Bedford police responded to the scene and found Pires sitting in the driver's seat of a black Dodge Charger parked on the south side of Dunbar Street.
