In the early morning hours of December 12, 2006, a violent rampage unfolded at the Foxy Lady strip club in New Bedford, Massachusetts, leaving three men dead, including the club's 30-year-old manager, Tory Marandos. A male shooter, identified as Scott Medeiros, 30, of Freetown, entered the establishment dressed in SWAT-style gear and armed with a high-powered rifle and a semiautomatic weapon.
Medeiros proceeded to open fire, fatally wounding Marandos and a security guard, 33-year-old
Robert Carreiro of New Bedford. The tragic event was spurred by Medeiros' soured relationship with a bartender at the club. The club's owner, Tom Tsoumas, who was also Marandos's uncle, stated that Medeiros had been previously barred from the premises due to concerns for the bartender's safety. The gunman had recently installed the security system at the club and was familiar with its layout.
The chaotic scene also resulted in injuries to several others, including two police officers who had been working a security detail at the location. After the deadly assault, Medeiros took his own life. The incident left the community in shock and prompted Marandos's family to advocate for tougher gun laws. His mother, Lynda Marandos, later testified before a public hearing, expressing the deep loss and trauma her family endured.
