On the evening of Saturday, April 8, 2023, tragedy struck in Boston's Roxbury neighborhood, forever altering the lives of a local family. Christopher Shivers, a 43-year-old Black / African American man, was fatally shot in the area of 2055 Columbus Avenue. The incident occurred at approximately 10:17 PM, shattering the peace of the Easter weekend. When officers from District E-13 arrived at the scene, they discovered Shivers suffering from apparent gunshot wounds.
He was quickly transported to a local hospital by Boston EMS, but tragically, his injuries proved to be fatal, and he was pronounced deceased.
The investigation into the death of Christopher Shivers continued for several months. Then, on the evening of Tuesday, June 27, 2023, a significant development occurred in the case. Members of the Boston Police Department's Fugitive Unit located and arrested a suspect, 44-year-old Demone Coleman of Dorchester. The arrest took place in the vicinity of 134 Greenwood Street in Dorchester. Coleman was taken into custody on an outstanding warrant from Suffolk Superior Court for the murder of Christopher Shivers. In addition to the murder charge, he also faced a charge of Unlawful Possession of a Firearm. Following his arrest, Coleman was scheduled for arraignment in Suffolk Superior Court.
Christopher Alan Shivers Sr. was born in Boston on April 24, 1979, to William James Shivers Sr. and Lorraine Godfrey. A graduate of Jeremiah E. Burke High School in 1997, he was known for his unwavering dedication to his family. Described as a loving father, son, and brother, his loyalty to those he cared for was a defining characteristic. He was a proud father to his son, Christopher Alan Shivers Jr., and his daughter, Chrishayla Shivers. Known for his "infamous smirk-like smile," he was a cherished presence in the lives of his family and friends. The community mourned the loss of a man who was an integral part of their lives, leaving behind his mother, two brothers, a sister, and his two children.
