On the evening of September 6, 2023, gunshots on Howard Street in Lawrence, Massachusetts, cut short a young life. Police responded to a 911 call for shots fired around 9:20 p.m. and discovered Angie Aristy, a 19-year-old female, suffering from gunshot wounds. Paramedics rushed her to Lawrence General Hospital, but she was pronounced dead a short time later.
Angie was reportedly sitting in a car with her girlfriend, who was not physically harmed, when the shooting occurred.
Her loved ones remembered Angie as smart, talented, strong, and ambitious, with a smile that could brighten any room. On a fundraising page, her family wrote that she had a tender heart and a determination to succeed. “She loved, she was strong, she preached, and she made others laugh,” they shared. “Most importantly, she cared about others first.”
An investigation involving state and local police moved quickly. About a week after the shooting, on September 13, authorities arrested two teenagers from Lawrence in connection with the case. The first suspect, 14-year-old Jobe Santiago, was charged as an adult with murder and ordered held without bail. The second suspect, a 15-year-old, was initially charged with assault with intent to rob and was set to be arraigned in juvenile court.
In late September 2023, an Essex County grand jury returned indictments against both teenagers, escalating the charges. The second suspect was identified as 15-year-old Jayden Torres. Both he and Jobe Santiago were indicted on charges of murder and armed robbery. The indictments moved their cases to superior court. As of September 2023, both teens were being held without bail as their cases remained pending.
