On December 30, 2023, Curtis Effee, a 41-year-old man from Boston, was fatally shot outside an apartment at 417 Geneva Avenue in Dorchester. The incident occurred around 12:50 a.m., with reports indicating that as many as 11 shots may have been fired, possibly in a drive-by shooting. Effee was shot in the chest and was declared dead at the scene by responding officers.
