In the early morning hours of December 30, 2023, the life of Curtis Effee, a 41-year-old Black / African American man, was tragically cut short on a street in Boston. The events that led to his death began the evening before, on December 29, inside an apartment at 417 Geneva Avenue. An argument erupted, involving several people including Effee and a man named Patrick Harland.
The verbal dispute spilled out of the apartment and onto the street, escalating into a physical altercation.
The situation intensified when two other men, Tyreese Robinson and Dasahn Crowder, arrived at the scene. During the melee, Harland reportedly brandished a knife and pointed it at Effee. Subsequently, both Crowder and Robinson are said to have drawn firearms and opened fire in Effee's direction. Tragically, Effee was struck by the gunfire and pronounced dead at the scene. The shooters fled, with Crowder and Robinson leaving in a car while Harland fled on foot.
In the aftermath of the shooting, the Boston Police Department launched an investigation that quickly led to arrests. On December 31, 2023, Tyreese Robinson, 19, and Dasahn Crowder, 21, were apprehended and charged with murder. A few months later, on March 25, 2024, the third suspect, 30-year-old Patrick Harland, was also taken into custody. Harland faced multiple charges, including first-degree murder, armed assault to murder, and witness intimidation. All three men were subsequently arraigned in court in connection with the death of Curtis Effee.
