In the early evening of September 5, 2013, a sense of unease settled over a block in Boston's Mattapan neighborhood. At approximately 6:02 p.m., the sound of gunfire shattered the late summer calm on Norfolk Street. When police officers from the B-3 District arrived at the scene, they discovered a young man suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim, an African-American male identified as 19-year-old Walter D. White, was pronounced dead at the scene.
