In the early hours of a Tuesday morning, the quiet of a Brockton, Massachusetts neighborhood was shattered by violence that claimed the life of 56-year-old Sheron Y. Trowers, a Black female. On April 2, 2024, Trowers was returning to her Ash Street home from a trip to Jamaica where she had attended her uncle's funeral. She never made it inside. In what law enforcement has described as an ambush, she was shot multiple times in her driveway.
Police responded to the scene after receiving
two 911 calls shortly after 12:30 a.m., one from inside the house reporting an unresponsive male and another from a neighbor who heard gunshots. First responders found Trowers in the driveway with multiple gunshot wounds. She was transported to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead. Her luggage from her trip was found near her body.
Inside the home, police discovered the body of 61-year-old Carlos Brown, Trowers' husband. Brown was found in the living room with what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. The Plymouth County District Attorney's Office has characterized the incident as a murder-suicide and stated that Brown is the sole suspect in Trowers' death, therefore no arrests have been made.
The investigation revealed a history of domestic violence between the couple. Court records indicated that Trowers had taken out a restraining order against Brown two decades prior, though it had since been dismissed. The couple's daughter was asleep upstairs at the time of the incident and was awakened by a loud noise. She discovered her father's body and called 911. Trowers was remembered by her family as a beloved woman who worked for the Massachusetts Department of Mental Health in a group home.
