Yubar Perez, a 40-year-old Hispanic male, was fatally shot in Worcester, Massachusetts, on the afternoon of October 2, 2024. The incident occurred on Heroult Road, where Perez was found with serious injuries. He was quickly transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. An obituary described Perez, born on July 22, 1984, in Springfield, Massachusetts, as a talented barber known for his warmth and charisma. He was a father of two daughters and had recently moved into the Heroult Road home with his wife and children.

The investigation into the shooting led police to identify 41-year-old Felix Rivera of Worcester as the suspect. Shortly after the shooting of Perez, law enforcement received reports of an armed man, later identified as Rivera, stopping traffic on Interstate 190 and pointing a firearm at motorists. This location was not far from the initial crime scene. As officers and state troopers arrived, they pursued Rivera on foot as he allegedly attempted to carjack vehicles on the highway.

During the confrontation with law enforcement, and due to the imminent threat authorities say he posed, officers discharged their firearms. Subsequently, Rivera turned his firearm on himself and took his own life. He was taken to a nearby hospital and pronounced dead. Investigators believe Rivera was responsible for the death of Yubar Perez. While a motive for the shooting has not been officially released by police, witnesses reportedly saw the gunman fleeing with a significant amount of cash.
