In the early hours of October 2, 2024, the life of Dennis Berry, a 62-year-old Black male from Springfield, Massachusetts, was tragically cut short. The fatal incident unfolded as a result of gun violence that occurred in Springfield. News reports later detailed that the event took place during a robbery at a gas station.
Subsequent to the shooting, an arrest was made in connection with the death of Mr. Berry. A 68-year-old man from Springfield was taken into custody.
He was later arraigned on charges related to the murder that occurred on Hancock Street.
Dennis Berry Jr. was born and raised in Enfield, Connecticut, and was a cherished member of his community and a devoted family man. He was the beloved son of Mrs. Monica Berry and the late Dennis Berry Sr. After a long and fulfilling career, he retired from the Osborn Correctional Facility, where he had earned the respect and admiration of his colleagues.
He was a loving husband to his wife, Suran Berry, with whom he shared 31 years of steadfast partnership and friendship. Together, they raised two children. Known as a true handyman, he found joy in helping others with their projects in both the Enfield, CT, and Springfield, MA areas. His willingness to lend a hand, coupled with his straightforward nature, made him a treasured friend to many. He was also an avid golfer who loved spending time on the course and enjoying the outdoors.
