In the early hours of a Tuesday morning in Boston, the life of 41-year-old Maceo Martin was brought to a sudden and violent end. On October 8, 2024, in the Roxbury neighborhood, Martin was found outside an apartment complex on Hammond Street around 1:35 a.m., suffering from a single gunshot wound to the chest. He was rushed to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The events leading to the fatal shooting began approximately an hour earlier when Martin had gone to the apartment
of his ex-girlfriend, with whom he shared children. An argument ensued, reportedly because he was upset that she was with another man. The police were called to the scene after Martin repeatedly rang her doorbell and called her, and she requested his removal from the premises. Although Martin initially left, he later returned to the apartment complex.
Following the incident, authorities arrested 27-year-old Widmaer Lapaix of North Attleboro, who was identified as the new boyfriend of Martin's ex-girlfriend. Lapaix was charged with murder and pleaded not guilty in Roxbury District Court, where he was ordered to be held without bail. Prosecutors allege that Lapaix shot Martin through a window of the apartment with a. 40 caliber rifle, a weapon he legally owned. Police reported finding a spent shell casing in the pocket of Lapaix's sweatshirt. It was noted that children were present in the apartment at the time of the shooting.
Maceo Anthony Martin was born on November 2, 1982, in Boston. A father to a son and a daughter, he had dreams of starting his own landscaping business. He had spent the summer of 2023 working for a landscaping company to learn the trade, putting in long hours and finding joy in the hard work. His case was scheduled for a probable cause hearing on October 30, 2024.
