In the summer of 2024, a quiet neighborhood in Oakwood, Georgia, became the scene of a fatal shooting that claimed the life of 36-year-old Shontae Pratt. On the afternoon of July 20th, Oakwood police officers were dispatched to a residence on Aster Place within the Prescott neighborhood following a 911 call. Their investigation led them to a nearby street, Wild Berry Court, where a vehicle had crashed into the back of a home.
Inside the car, they discovered the driver, Shontae Pratt, a man from Houston, Mississippi, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
Emergency services transported Pratt to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead. The focus of the police investigation quickly turned to identifying and locating the person responsible for the shooting. Through a collaborative effort involving the Oakwood Police Department, the Flowery Branch Police, and the Hall County Sheriff's Office, a suspect was soon identified.
At the original location of the 911 call on Aster Place, law enforcement officers found 38-year-old Jeremy Lewis Gambrel of Oakwood. Gambrel, who had a minor injury, was taken into custody at the scene. He has since been arrested and is facing serious charges, including murder and aggravated assault with intent to murder. Gambrel is currently being held at the Hall County Jail without bond as the investigation into the circumstances that led to the deadly shooting continues. Funeral services for Shontae Pratt were scheduled to be held in his hometown of Houston, Mississippi.
