Robert Lee Puckett, a 40-year-old Caucasian male, served as the Chief of Police in Oakwood, Georgia. On December 26, 1904, while attempting to arrest a group of intoxicated men causing a disturbance in town, Chief Puckett was shot in the abdomen by one of the men. Despite being critically wounded, he managed to return fire and fatally wound his assailant. The other men involved in the incident were arrested and faced charges related to the disturbance and the shooting.
