In the early morning hours of January 19, 2023, the body of 23-year-old Derrick Allen Janney of Indianapolis was discovered alongside Interstate 65 in Franklin, Indiana. First responders found the young man near the 91-mile marker with injuries that were consistent with a gunshot wound. The Johnson County Sheriff's Office and Indiana State Police initiated a death investigation, which led to the temporary closure of one southbound lane of the interstate.
Initially, authorities were
cautious about the nature of the incident, with the Indiana State Police stating that they were not preliminarily ruling the death a homicide. The Johnson County Coroner's Office scheduled an autopsy to determine the official cause and manner of death. Following the investigation, the Daily Journal reported that Derrick Allen Janney's death was ruled a suicide. There have been no reports of any arrests or suspects in connection with this incident.
