In the quiet town of Vincennes, Indiana, the life of 18-year-old Hunter James Ravellette was tragically cut short on the night of March 31, 2023. A Caucasian male, Hunter was found in the driveway of a residence on East Locust Street with a gunshot wound to his chest. The call to law enforcement came in at approximately 10:05 p.m., and despite the immediate response and life-saving efforts of troopers who administered CPR and first aid, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The
investigation into the shooting was a collaborative effort between the Indiana State Police and the Vincennes Police Department. An autopsy conducted on April 3rd determined that the cause of Hunter's death was a non-contact gunshot wound to his chest, and the Knox County Coroner's Office ruled his death a homicide. As detectives pieced together the events of that fatal Friday night, their findings were turned over to the Knox County Prosecutor's Office for review.
Less than two weeks later, on April 13, 2023, an arrest was made in connection with the death of Hunter Ravellette. George Smith, an 18-year-old from Vincennes, was charged with reckless homicide, a level 5 felony. He turned himself in at the Knox County Jail and was later released after posting bond. The investigation also led to the arrest of a 17-year-old male from Vincennes for illegal possession of a firearm. The unnamed juvenile was taken to the Southwest Indiana Regional Youth Village in Vincennes.
