On a Sunday evening in Greenwood, Indiana, 18-year-old Ethan J. David was found deceased in the driver's seat of his car on Liberty Way Drive. It was December 10, 2023, and the young man from Indianapolis had been fatally shot. The vehicle was still running, and the driver's side door was open.
The investigation into David's death quickly revealed a story of a drug deal that had taken a violent turn. Authorities identified two teenage suspects: 17-year-old Quincy D. Stringer Jr.
and a 15-year-old female, later identified as 16-year-old Da'Zaria Dyson. The two had reportedly conspired to rob David during a prearranged meeting to purchase marijuana. The meeting was arranged through the social messaging app Telegram. During the encounter, Stringer is said to have fatally shot David. Witnesses reported seeing two individuals, wearing ski masks, fleeing the scene after hearing a gunshot.
In the days following the shooting, both Stringer and Dyson were arrested. Stringer was charged with murder and his case was waived to adult court. The investigation found that Stringer and Dyson had communicated after the incident, with Dyson allegedly laughing about David's death and expressing a wish that she had been the one to shoot him. A search of David's car revealed marijuana, THC cartridges, and other drug paraphernalia.
Quincy D. Stringer Jr. ultimately pleaded guilty to felony murder. In July 2024, he was sentenced to 55 years, with 45 years to be served in prison followed by 10 years of supervised release. As part of his sentence, he was ordered to undergo mental health treatment and complete his GED. The case against Da'Zaria Dyson was still pending as of June of the same year. Family and friends of Ethan David remembered him as a young man who loved fishing, hunting, and drawing, with dreams of one day owning his own tattoo shop.
