On March 3, 2024, authorities in Indianapolis, Indiana, launched a homicide investigation following the discovery of a deceased Black male, 39-year-old Corey L. Reed. Law enforcement officers were initially dispatched to the 5400 block of East 21st Street shortly before 7:00 p.m. in response to reports of a vehicle collision. Upon arriving at the scene, first responders found Reed inside a white pickup truck that had crashed into another vehicle.
A closer inspection revealed that the crash was the aftermath of a violent encounter, as Reed was suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. Despite the arrival of emergency medical personnel, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The subsequent investigation by the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department quickly identified a potential suspect in the vicinity. Curtis Page Jr., a 45-year-old man, was apprehended near the scene of the shooting, specifically at a liquor store located on East 21st Street. According to reports, Page surrendered to officers peacefully but declined to provide information regarding the events that led to the shooting. Detectives noted that Page was found shortly after the truck crashed, and he was taken into custody without further incident.
Curtis Page Jr. was formally arrested and charged with murder in connection with Reed's death. While the specific motive for the shooting remained unclear in the immediate aftermath, court records indicated that this was not Page's first encounter with the justice system involving serious allegations; he had previously been accused of murder in Marion County in 2006, a case that resulted in an acquittal the following year.
