On March 16, 2024, a violent tragedy unfolded in the Broad Ripple entertainment district of Indianapolis, Indiana, claiming the life of 36-year-old Black male Timothy Randall Brown Jr. Known to his friends and family as Tim, Brown was working as an employee at the Landsharks nightclub located on Broad Ripple Avenue when a dispute erupted inside the crowded venue during the early morning hours.
Witnesses and surveillance footage later revealed that the altercation began as an argument involving two women, which quickly escalated when a male patron intervened.
The situation turned deadly around 1:20 a.m. when the suspect, identified by authorities as 25-year-old Nicholas Fulk, was captured on security video retrieving a firearm that had been concealed inside a female companion’s clothing. Fulk allegedly pulled the weapon from the woman's shirt or bra and fired indiscriminately into the crowd. The gunfire struck six individuals, sending patrons scrambling for cover. Brown, a father and wrestling coach who was described by loved ones as a protective figure, sustained fatal injuries during the chaos. Despite the arrival of emergency responders, he succumbed to his wounds, while five other men survived their injuries after being treated at local hospitals.
Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department detectives utilized a combination of witness accounts and technology to track the fleeing suspect. Investigators relied on the city's B-Link camera system and license plate readers to trace Fulk’s movements from the nightclub to a residence on the south side of Indianapolis. Less than 10 hours after the shooting, SWAT officers apprehended Fulk without incident at a home on Murphy’s Landing Drive.
Following his arrest, the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office filed formal charges against Nicholas Fulk, including one count of murder for the death of Timothy Brown. He also faced multiple felony counts of aggravated battery and battery with a deadly weapon for the injuries inflicted on the surviving victims, as well as a charge for unlawful possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon. Court records indicated that Fulk had a prior criminal history, including a 2020 conviction for strangulation, and was on probation for theft at the time of the shooting. He was ordered held without bond as the community and Brown's family mourned the senseless loss of a man remembered for his infectious laugh and dedication to his children.
