In the early afternoon of April 8, 2024, a burst of violence in a Michigan City, Indiana, parking lot tragically ended the life of 27-year-old Dylan Robert Andersen. The male victim was in the parking lot of an Advance Auto Parts on U.S. Highway 20 when he was shot multiple times. First responders rushed to the scene shortly before 1:00 p.m. and found Andersen critically wounded.
They administered life-saving measures before he was transported to Franciscan Health Michigan City Hospital, but he ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
The investigation into Andersen's death quickly led Michigan City police to a suspect. Within a short time, officers located and detained 26-year-old Gavin Mohamed in connection with the fatal shooting. Following a review of the case by the LaPorte County Prosecutor's Office, probable cause was established to formally charge Mohamed.
Gavin Mohamed has been charged with murder in the death of Dylan Andersen. He is being held on a $1,000,000 cash-only bond and was scheduled for an initial court appearance on April 16, 2024. Authorities have encouraged anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has any additional information, including video footage, to come forward to assist with the ongoing investigation.
