Benjamin Luis Lopez, born on August 17, 2004, in Chicago, Illinois, was the son of Luis and Angela Lopez and the brother of Ally and Emma. He grew up on the north side of Chicago, attending Waters Elementary from kindergarten to eighth grade and later Amundsen High School. Despite being diagnosed with Autoimmune Hepatitis (AIH) at an early age, Ben remained committed to his education and extracurricular activities.
He faced significant challenges during his senior year but found support through Pathways in Education, which helped him graduate in June 2022. Following his high school graduation, Ben attended community college in Chicago.
Tragically, Benjamin's life was cut short on Sunday, January 15, 2023, at 11:15 p.m. when he was killed by gun violence while traveling as a passenger in a vehicle on the north side of Chicago. This incident occurred in the city he loved and called home.
The funeral services for Benjamin were held on January 19 and 20, 2023. The visitation took place at Colonial-Wojciechowski Funeral Home in Chicago, followed by a funeral mass at St. Monica Church. He was interred at Maryhill Cemetery in Niles, Illinois.
As of the current date, Benjamin’s murder remains unsolved. Efforts to find justice for his death are ongoing, with his family and community continuing to seek answers and justice for the tragic loss of his life.
