On February 19, 2023, a tragic shooting occurred on the northbound lanes of Interstate 57 near 116th Street in the Morgan Park neighborhood of Chicago, Illinois. The incident resulted in the deaths of three individuals, including 19-year-old Nasir Hall.
Nasir Hall was one of the victims found in the back of a vehicle that had been shot at around 10:30 p.m. He was pronounced dead at the scene along with 13-year-old William L. Smith.
A third victim, 1-year-old A-mara Hall, who was Nasir Hall's daughter, was also pronounced dead after being taken to a local hospital.
The shooting involved a vehicle carrying six people, which was riddled with bullets. In addition to the three fatalities, the driver and two other juveniles were taken to the hospital with gunshot wounds. The female driver managed to get off the expressway at 111th Street and Hamlet Avenue after the incident.
The investigation led by the Illinois State Police identified Sean Richardson, a 20-year-old Chicago man, as the suspect in the shooting. Richardson was arrested on August 19, 2024, on unrelated charges and was subsequently charged with three counts of first-degree murder and three counts of attempted first-degree murder in connection with the I-57 shooting. He is currently being held at the Cook County Jail awaiting his first court appearance.
Nasir Hall's death, along with those of his daughter A-mara and William Smith, who was related to the Halls, has had a profound impact on the community.
