On March 21, 2023, Quentin Pruett, a 45-year-old man from Green Bay, Wisconsin, was shot and killed during a home invasion in the Rogers Park neighborhood of Chicago. Pruett was visiting friends and family in Chicago when the incident occurred. The shooting took place in a ground floor unit of an apartment building in the 7600 block of North Sheridan Road, just north of Howard Street.
According to reports, the incident happened around 3:30 a.m.
when someone knocked on the back door, pushed it open, and fired shots into the home while Pruett was standing in the living room. Witnesses described the shooter running away into the alley after the shots were fired. A 911 call was made immediately, but Pruett suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Pruett's family believes that he may have been a victim of mistaken identity. His cousin described him as a non-violent, hard-working, and positive individual who did not deserve such a tragic fate. The family is devastated by the loss and hopes that the person responsible will be brought to justice.
The apartment complex where the incident occurred has a history of significant crime and safety issues. Neighbors have reported numerous incidents, including domestic violence, drug overdoses, and gun violence. In the year preceding the shooting, there were over 300 calls to police and fire departments related to the property. Despite efforts by Alderwoman Maria Hadden's office to address these issues through enforcement procedures and court-ordered security measures, the problems persist.
As of the latest reports, no arrests have been made in connection with Pruett's death. Area 3 detectives are continuing their investigation into the attack.
