On May 8, 2023, Isaiah Ayala, a 36-year-old resident of Aurora, Illinois, was fatally shot in the early hours of the morning. The incident occurred near the intersection of Illinois Avenue and Candleberry Lane, where officers responded to multiple 911 calls reporting shots fired and a person shot around 12:15 a.m..
Upon arrival, police found Ayala suffering from gunshot wounds inside a residence in the 2300 block of Candleberry Lane.
He was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead a short time later due to his injuries.
The investigation into Ayala's death was led by the Aurora Police Department and remained active for over three months. During this period, detectives gathered evidence and identified the suspects involved in the shooting. On August 24, 2023, three men were arrested and charged in connection with Ayala's murder.
The suspects, Kevan Spatz, 36, Joshua Rodriguez, 31, and William Rodriguez, 18, were taken into custody by the U.S. Marshals Service Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force. Each of the men was charged with one count of first-degree murder, one count of home invasion, and two counts of armed violence. Additionally, Spatz and Joshua Rodriguez were charged with one count of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon by a felon, while William Rodriguez was charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon by a person under 21.
All three suspects are being held at the Kane County Adult Justice Center on $2 million bonds each. Despite the arrests and charges, the Aurora Police Department continues to investigate the shooting and is seeking any additional information from the public.
