Born on April 3, 1996, in Naperville, Illinois, Daniel was the son of Eleazar Sanchez and Adriana Cervantes. He was a passionate soccer player, a graduate of West Aurora High School, and a student at Waubonsee Community College, where he was studying Business. Daniel worked at O'Reilly Auto Parts in Aurora and had a keen interest in fixing cars.
He was known for his love of music and spending time with family and friends.
The circumstances surrounding Daniel Sanchez's death were deeply tragic. On the day of his death, Daniel had arranged to sell a small amount of marijuana to Leon D. Williams, a 23-year-old male. During the transaction, which took place in a car, Williams attempted to rob Daniel. In an effort to escape, Daniel fled from the car, but Williams chased after him and shot him twice with a .25 caliber handgun, hitting him in the leg and head. Daniel was found by police lying on the ground, bleeding, and was rushed to Good Samaritan Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The investigation into Daniel Sanchez's murder led to the arrest of Leon D. Williams and another co-defendant. Williams confessed to the crime, admitting that he had tried to rob Daniel and subsequently shot him. In March 2018, Williams pleaded guilty to first-degree murder and was sentenced to 55 years in prison. The co-defendant, Keyonn S. Lovelace, also pleaded guilty in February 2019 and received a 30-year sentence.
