Emarion Lamar Carpenter, a 15-year-old from Peoria, Illinois, lost his life to gun violence on June 18, 2023. He was born on April 8, 2008, to Cassity Johnson.
The incident occurred in the area near McBean and Merriman in Peoria, following multiple ShotSpotter alerts. During this event, Emarion Carpenter was pronounced dead at the scene. Another juvenile present at the time suffered a hand injury.
In connection with this homicide, which was Peoria's ninth of the year, an arrest was made. Markes Wilson, a 28-year-old, was arrested on July 14, 2023, on charges of Aggravated Discharge of a Weapon and Possession of a Weapon by a Felon. Wilson was apprehended by detectives after he was seen walking out of a home near Jefferson and Spencer. Further investigation led to the discovery of several pieces of evidence, including ammunition, inside the home.
