On July 10, 2023, a tragic shooting occurred in the South Shore neighborhood of Chicago, resulting in the death of 16-year-old Tyana Bosley. The incident happened around 10 p.m. in the 7100 block of South Yates Boulevard. Tyana and her 32-year-old aunt were walking home from Tyana's first summer job at Jimmy John's on Michigan Avenue when they were ambushed by two gunmen from a nearby empty lot.
Tyana and her aunt were both shot during the attack.
Despite being rushed to the University of Chicago Medical Center, Tyana was pronounced dead. Her aunt, who was shot once in the body, underwent surgery and was listed in good condition.
Tyana was described by her mother as a "beautiful soul" and a straight-A student at Gwendolyn Brooks College Prep Academy High School. She was an active and talented individual who loved to sing gospel at her church, swim, and play volleyball. She also had a creative side, often sewing clothes for her Barbie dolls.
As of the current date, the Chicago police are still investigating the shooting and are looking for the two gunmen involved. No one has been taken into custody in connection with the crime.
