Anton Benoit, a 31-year-old man from the Chatham neighborhood in Chicago, was fatally shot on July 26, 2023. Surveillance cameras captured the moment when suspects exited a black Dodge Durango and opened fire on Benoit, who was at pump number one around 4:10 p.m. on a Wednesday afternoon.
Benoit was described by his family as a person who loved helping people, laughing, and smiling. He had recently been excited about starting a new job at FedEx after spending several years in and out of prison. His family noted that he was in the process of turning his life around and was looking forward to building his own family.
The shooting was caught on video from several different angles, and the footage has been released by the police in hopes of identifying the perpetrators.
