On the night of August 18, 2023, 18-year-old male Hamza Ali Omar was riding as a passenger in a vehicle moving along the 4300 block of West Maypole Avenue in Chicago's West Garfield Park when gunfire tore through the car around 9:56 p.m. Bullets struck the 18-year-old male in the head, cheek, and abdomen.
