On February 26, 2024, Simon Brown, a 59-year-old father, was fatally shot in the Greater Grand Crossing neighborhood of Chicago's South Side. The incident occurred around 5:45 p.m. near the intersection of 71st and State streets. Brown was on his way to buy a lottery ticket for his wife when he became an innocent bystander caught in the crossfire of a shootout.
