On March 31, 2024, Johnveir Winn-McKeever, a 16-year-old, was fatally shot in a mass shooting incident in the Austin neighborhood of Chicago, Illinois. The shooting occurred around 2:50 p.m. in the 400 block of North Lavergne Avenue. Along with Johnveir's death, three young adults were also wounded in the incident.
