On May 1, 2024, a tragic incident occurred in the residential area of Vernon Hills, Illinois, resulting in the deaths of Victoria Ceja, 67, and her husband, Ramiro Ceja, 77. The couple was found deceased in their single-family home located in the 400 block of Cherry Valley Road. The discovery was made at approximately 9:20 a.m. when the Vernon Hills Police Department and the Countryside Fire Protection District responded to a call reporting two people possibly deceased inside the residence.
Upon arrival, officers found both Victoria and Ramiro with apparent gunshot wounds. Victoria Ceja succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds, while Ramiro Ceja suffered a single fatal gunshot wound. Both victims were pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation, led by the Vernon Hills Police Department and assisted by the Lake County Major Crimes Task Force, revealed no signs of forced entry into the home. A firearm was recovered at the scene, and preliminary indications suggest that the incident is being classified as a "murder-suicide".
The Lake County Coroner's Office, under Coroner Jennifer Banek, officially identified the victims as Victoria Ceja and Ramiro Ceja, both residents of the home. The authorities have assured the public that there is no ongoing danger related to this incident.
