On June 18, 2024, 7-year-old Jai'Mani Amir Rivera was fatally shot in a random act of gun violence on the West Side of Chicago. Jai'Mani had just left his apartment at the Oakley Square Apartments and was walking to his grandmother's residence next door when he was struck in the chest by a stray bullet. Responding officers provided aid and transported him in their squad car to Stroger Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
