Michal Ciskal, a 25-year-old Polish immigrant, was fatally shot on July 14, 2024, during an attempted carjacking at a gas station in the 5400 block of South Wells Street in Chicago's Fuller Park area. The incident occurred shortly before 8 a.m. as Ciskal was on his way to work. He was shot in the chest and later died from his injuries.
Ciskal was remembered by his friends as "loyal and polite."
At the time of his death, he was preparing for a visit from his parents and 10-year-old brother, whom he had not seen in nearly three years.
The investigation into the shooting led to the arrest of a 14-year-old boy, who was identified as the suspect in the fatal shooting. The teenager was charged with first-degree murder and attempted vehicular hijacking. The arrest was made on October 22, 2024, more than three months after the incident.
