On July 23, 2024, 31-year-old Quinterius L. Evans of Peoria, Illinois, was fatally shot in the 2500 block of West Garden Street. Responding to multiple ShotSpotter alerts indicating 20 rounds fired, officers found Evans with multiple gunshot wounds. Despite immediate medical attention, he was pronounced dead at OSF HealthCare Saint Francis Medical Center.
Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood confirmed that Evans died instantly due to multiple gunshot wounds, leading to a rapid loss of blood volume. In the wake of his death, over 30 family members and friends gathered for a vigil to honor his memory.
In November 2024, authorities charged 35-year-old Bryan Vann with first-degree murder in connection with Evans's death. The charge specifies that Vann personally discharged the firearm that killed Evans, which could result in a sentence ranging from 45 years to life imprisonment if convicted. At the time of the charge, Vann was not in custody and was believed to be in another jurisdiction.
Evans is survived by his parents, Willie and Alice Evans; his sons, Amere Parker and JoeDeon Chaplin; siblings, Tabren and Ali Evans, Vanise Johnson, Markisha Evans, Shalayla Liddell, and Deloria Brown; and grandmothers, Mary and Deloris Mitchell. He was predeceased by his siblings, Aaron Evans and Carla Michelle Walker. A visitation and celebration of life were held on August 3, 2024, at T.W. Parks Colonial Chapel in Peoria.
