Jayden Velazquez-Garcia, a 19-year-old resident of Plainfield, Illinois, was fatally shot in the Preston Heights area of Joliet Township on July 24, 2024. The incident occurred at approximately 3:45 p.m. when Velazquez-Garcia was sitting inside a vehicle near the intersection of Luana Road and Girard Boulevard. He was shot while in the vehicle but managed to drive down the street before exiting the vehicle in the 100 block of Girard Boulevard.
Upon exiting the vehicle, Velazquez-Garcia was found lying on the ground in the roadway by Will County Sheriff’s deputies. He was immediately transported to Ascension Saint Joseph – Joliet hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 5:43 p.m..
The Will County Sheriff’s Office has classified the shooting as an isolated and targeted attack. Witnesses reported seeing a suspect or suspects running west on Luana Road after the shooting, although no arrests or specific suspect details have been publicly disclosed as of the current date.
