Carlos A. Grays, a 39-year-old Black male from Chicago, died on September 5, 2024, after gunfire erupted on a late-summer night in North Lawndale. Just after 11 p.m., he and another man were standing in the street in the 1500 block of South Kenneth Avenue when someone approached and opened fire.
Neighbors heard the shots split the quiet and saw people scatter; moments later, first responders were rushing Grays to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead before midnight.
