On September 9, 2024, a fatal shooting occurred on Chicago's South Side, resulting in the death of Emil L. Riley Jr., a 30-year-old man. The incident took place in the 7400-block of South Kimbark Avenue in the Grand Crossing neighborhood.
According to the Chicago Police Department, Riley and a 31-year-old woman were in a stationary vehicle when a white sedan pulled up. Three suspects exited the sedan and began shooting in the direction of the victims.
Riley was shot and pronounced dead at the scene. The Cook County Medical Examiner's Office later confirmed his identity.
The woman, who was also shot, was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center and is in critical condition. As of the current date, no one is in custody, and Area Detectives are continuing to investigate the incident.
The shooting is part of an ongoing investigation, and authorities have not yet released any information about the suspects or a motive for the attack.
